BASFOLIAR SUN PROTECT SL is a complex product with Boron content of physiologically active substances for the protection of fruit and berry crops in the phase of formation and ripening of fruits from sun rays damage and the formation of burns.

SUN RAYS DAMAGE OF FRUIT AND BERRY CROPS

Sunlight is the driving force for growth and development of plants. In the process of photosynthesis, solar energy is converted into carbohydrates. However, in some cases, sunlight causes serious damage of the plant tissues, especially of commercial yield of fruit and berry crops. Fruits are susceptible to damage in the form of sunburn. Damage of commercial products can be up to 50%, depending on the varieties and features of culture.

WHAT HAPPENS IN PLANTS IN THE CASE OF A DAMAGE BY RAYS

The main factors that affect the fruits and berries is the active ultraviolet radiation and high temperatures, which cause the formation of free oxygen molecules (O2), or peroxides (H2O2), which destroys the cell membranes and induce the cell death. Defense mechanism in plants is the formation of anti-oxidants, the main ones are tocopherol (vitamin E), ascorbic acid (vitamin C), carotenoids and phenolic compounds. An important function of α-tocopherol is to preserve the functionality of the cell wall under stress conditions, including in frost. One molecule of α-tocopherol may block up to 220 molecules of oxygen and peroxide.

HOW DOES THE DAMAGE OF FRUITS HAPPEN

The burns on the fruits are a consequence of overheating or temporarily high UV radiation. In warm, sunny days the temperature of the fruits peel can be higher by 10 - 15 °C from the environmental temperature and can be +50 ° C and above, which causes temperature increment and fetal tissue damage. Tissue damage, caused by overheating, has the form of brown or black spots with sharp edges on the surface of the fruit. In the case of damage from UV radiation in combination with high temperatures the damages have more diffusive character.

FRUITS AND BERRIES PROTECTION MECHANISM AGAINST SUNBURN

Basfoliar San Protect SL includes anti-oxidants in the form of α-tocopherol and phenolic acids which negate the destructive action of oxygen and peroxide and stabilize the cell walls. Except anti-oxidants, the product includes special absorbents which absorb UV radiation and thereby protect the surface of the fruit.

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR USE

Basfoliar Sun Protect includes physiologically active substances which are absorbed by plants surface and are activated in tissues that can be damaged by high temperatures. This process usually takes about 24 hours. Therefore, the treatment of plants is recommended to carry out for at least per 24 hours before the onset of stressful conditions. The period of active protective action is from 7 to 10 days. In the case of occurrence of stress conditions after this period, it is recommended to carry out additional treatments. The recommended application rate is 1,2 l/ha at the rate of consumption of working solution 200 l/ha. The concentration, which is formed under these norms and equal to 0.6%, is mandatory in order to maximize the effectiveness of the application.
